Anuradhapura
Anuradhapura is one of the Ancient Sri Lankan capital cities which is situated in Northern Province 200Km away from Colombo in Sri Lanka. The City Anuradhapura has played a very major role in the journey of Sri Lankan Kingdoms, and it was the third capital city of Kingdom Rajarata. The temples, Stupas, forts, palaces, ponds, pools, canals which were built in the times of the Rajarata Kings still remain alive here. Anuradhapura has been a famous capital city among the Sinhalese kings, and it was the milestone for Buddhist era in Sri Lankan history. During the governance of Anuradhapura kingdom, the kings started to spread the Buddhism and its charity all around Southern Asia. The City Anuradhapura was a most powerful capital in Sri Lankan history, and the kings of the Anuradhapura era was very talented, creative, genius, brave and forerunners in constructing Vihara, Huge ponds, lagoons, and sculptures of ancient Sri Lanka. In present, these ruins are highly attracted by people all around the world to visit and discover the secrets of Sri Lankan Civilization. The Landscape of the City is enclosed with many places, ruins and monastic buildings which share the testimonies of ancient times at Anuradhapura Stronghold. As well as The Moonstone, Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi Vihara, Abayagiri Dagaba, Kuttam Pokuna, Ruwanweli Saya Stupa, Isurumuniya, Thuparama are very famous places in Anuradhapura City. The ponds of the Anuradhapura Era make the geologists wondered how they were built by the hands of human. But, the history says, those ponds were constructed with the help of big monsters.
Also, City Anuradhapura was a cornerstone for the Sri Lankan culture and heritage. During the period of Rajarata Kingdom, the city was very famous for Arts and Sculpting. Most Civilians of Anuradhapura were motivated in Architecture, frescoes and Sculpture art. The Sigiriya frescoes which is similar to the Paintings of Ajanta (in India), Paintings from a cave at Hindagala, Statues of Buddha, Isurumuniya, the moonstone are few of remnants of Anuradhapura Arts.
The City Anuradhapura has been very famous among the tourist all around the world. Although the Rulers, Architects, Sculpture artists and civilians may be disappeared from our sights but the ruins, paintings, and landmarks are still demonstrating the amazing journey of Anuradhapura Kingdom.
